Glad to hear it.dancedroid Seriously like your work and would love to see more of it.
I'm just a semi-technical noob that wants to move to your 2.2 ROM from an unrooted 2.1.
Any chance of a step by step guide to get there? I'm ready to jump in but just need to start at ground zero unlike most on the forum in this thread.
Thanks for all you do!
Thanks for all you do, Pete. Cheers mate!
Maybe a stupid question, but does this have root?
From the original post:
OK, so I know the difference between odexed and deodexed, but I do have 2 questions. Are the official Google releases odexed? Are odexed ROMs faster?
I have posted my one issue in the frf84 stock thread above and even mentioned this to cvps (as he mentioned something about it) but what is the story on the new SU app? Right now my root explorer program breaks SU whenever I toggle the r/o r/w switch (using your original frf84b stock). Another root explorer type program does not do this, just Root Explorer. Does the first thread on frf84b stock use the old SU, whereas the new posted one here use a new SU ap? I have seen quite a few posts across the forums here with folks having issues with SU getting broken. Usually the response is to rewipe and reflash, whereas I have actually nailed down a specific cause, and would like to help others who may be finding some incompatability issues.
So the link in the FRG01B thread wasn't working so I went exploring Pete's AndroidOverdrive files and stumbled across FRG01BDEODEXED.zip. There's no mention of the deodexed version of FRG01B in the FRG01B odexed thread or anywhere that I've noticed so I've been wondering what this is. Is it an early, unstable file he's been testing that he didn't expect anyone to come accross? A proper release that he forgot to post? Something that was buried in a thread that I missed? Just a misnamed file? Anyone know? Have I asked enough questions yet?
I should probably leave this for an expert to answer, but I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, the Google releases are odexed (that I'm pretty sure of), and yes the odexed releases are faster, though (I think) it's mostly just on boot that you'd notice the difference.
I'd imagine if you're going to stay vanilla Android there's no point to go deodoexed, but obviously if you plan on theming, etc. you have to go deodexed. I personally don't know any other reasons to choose between the two, but that might be something for someone more experienced to answer.
EDIT: That post was older than I thought.
I think he just forgot to come and mention it.
Anyone have updated links? These mostly seem to be broken.
They should all be here: Index of /pete/OEM
