Hey guys, i'm new here. Rom Manager has been acting up for me lately, so i wondered if there is any other recovery i can use on the Moto Droid rather than SPRecovery or ClockworkMod. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated, due to the fact that Gingerbread was finally released today.

The problems you're experiencing are most likely due to ROM Manager itself, not the recoveries. In terms of stability and reliability, I've never had a problem with Clockwork. The highly oversimplified best practice for downloading and flashing ROMs using ClockworkMod Recovery is to:

    - download the ROM onto your computer and all associated packages (Gapps), kernels, patches, fixes, etc.
    - copy onto sdcard
    - reboot into recovery (hold X
    - do a nandroid backup
    - wipe data/cache 3 times each
    - install zip from sdcard
    - find the folder/file you want to flash, and...
    - flash away!

Custom kernels are similar -- except no wipe is necessary.

For SPRecovery, just rename the file you want to flash to update.zip and place on the root of your sdcard (Ex filepath: /sdcard/update.zip)

Been using SPRecovery since June with 0 issues. Tried CW for a bit but always end up back at SP.

I'll give it a go! Isn't it true though that you have to change the file name of everything you want to put onto the phone to "update.zip"?

Wiping once is plenty. Those who have said to wipe multiple times in the past were just trying to get it into peoples heads to make sure you wipe. 1 time does the same as 60 times.

I had this problem, but if you are using Clockwork 2.5.0.1, the default recovery that ROM manger flashes, don't do that. Go to the bottom and use the 2.5.0.0 legacy CW recovery, it's basically the same, and I have had no problems so far.

in mine, right now, legacy list is:
    2 5 1 4
    2 5 1 3
    2 5 1 1
    2 5 1 0

which all error out if I try (current is 2 5 0 1, hmmm???)

Sorry, there are a few recoveries above 2.5.0.0, but scroll down to that one. The other ones error because I think they aren't compatible with the OG Droid. So, just make sure you choose 2.5.0.0
