Does the nexus actually film in 1080p because in the video camera settings all I see it goes to is 720p.

I think it does record in 1080p cause I recorded a video and uploaded to YouTube and it plays in 1080p. My problem with the camcorder is when viewing a video through the gallery it cant be viewed full screen.

For the rear camera, yes, but it defaults to 720p. In the video mode in the camera, go into camera settings and tap where it says 720p and change it to 1080p. The front facing camera can only do 720p or lower.
