So i recorded people talking at my father inlaws funeral and the video stopped at exactly 30 minutes. gave me the wait or close option. i waited. I got home to transfer .3gp video from my droid it shows as 594mb. but the video wont play at all. not from phone, vlc, media player etc... I used hex to compare to other video files. the first line in hex is zeros all the way across . so i tried comparing to a working video. working video had a few zeros then numbers. so i copied first two lines of working video to non working video still doesnt work?

Any help please???? this is a once in a lifetime video of whole funeral!

non working video first three lines.

Gosh, I'm sorry. First things first, save a copy of the original in a safe place. Only work on copies of the original. Second, you might want to check your phone's LOST.DIR directory on your sd card in case data was dumped there. Third, maybe ffmpeg would be able to convert the file.

Sorry, that's all I have. You can download the 3GP spec and try to fix the file, but it would probably take a long time to figure out.

I hear you. I'm not too familiar with that software either, but it's the one thing I could think of that might work. On windows you would either need to run a unix emulator like cygwin (really cool and easy to set up) or find a windows port.

It might be a real pain to look over the 3gp spec and try to fix the file by hand. I'm a programmer and I bet it would be a pain in the butt...maybe. I'll download the spec now. Maybe something will pop out at me.

Definitely save the file. VLC is improving all the time and can even fix some corrupted files. A future version might do the trick for you. Then there's mplayer (more unix software with windows ports). You might want to try that.

One other thought. There's a dev on here that makes software that encodes dvds for the droid. You might want to seek him out and ask for help. He seems pretty cool and helpful so it's worth a shot.
