Can the phone do this? without and app? Really it's annoying to need an app for everything!
I want an app that would atleast let me send it through messaging not email.

Voice Recorder does this I think & Droid Record. Of course you need an app because all an app is is a small piece of software, even if "the phone did it" it would still be an app.

NoteEverything also does it and provides a variety of options in terms of the method for sending it. Of course, it's an app...:)

With Android, the Market and all the apps you can get is kind of the point of the platform in a sense. If you don't like certain default apps you can usually find an alternative for it in the Market. A lot of people don't like the default text messaging app, so they usually download Handcent. The Market is your friend!!
