Following the Droid 2 getting the FM Radio. That and knowing a while back someone got the Droid 1 to get real FM Radio but for some reason the project was dropped. Is there ANY Way to get the FM Radio to work. I've read that the chipset is present in the Bluetooth radio. But Audio routing was the issue. Any info?

From what I have heard, the Droid 1 lacks the physical traces on the motherboard to carry audio from the FM receiver.

So basically you can tune stations but can't hear them :(

So not possible...bummer cause that would of been of been a nice bonus.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Just double checked this with the new Miui rom which comes with the radio app. It appears to be a great app, but can deliver no sound via The Droid. Also, it will only get a signal if there is a wired headphone plugged in to the jack.

If anyone wants to donate a broken Droid I can try my hand at reflowing the processor and tracking back the FM pin to see if it's connected to a test point anywhere. If so it would just be a matter of wiring up a jumper.

The WL1271 is the Texas Instruments WLAN chipset the Droid 1 uses... it's the one that has the FM radio stuff bundled in :)+:palm:

Yah I started a thread on Alldroid at the dawn of the Droid Age about this but the dev worknig on it got in a car crash and then it seemed like all interest was just lost.

Whats the advantage of using "real FM" over just downloading one of the many radio apps that carries the stations from all over the country?

It doesn't rely on WiFi or 3G. IE, Verizon can't charge you for data usage.

There was a FM Radio App on the first ported MIUI ROM, but it didn't work. I don't know if it just didn't know how to use the Bluetooth radio correctly on the Droid1, but it has been removed on the newer MIUI Roms for Droid1. It was cool looking though.
