RAZR headphone problem

I'm having a problem using the ipod headset with microphone with the RAZR, when its plugged in all the sound comes thru just fine, but the microphone doesnt pick up sound, and instead it is taken from the phone microphone. I like to put my phone in my pocket when im talking and doing other things, so this could be a problem. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

ahh ic, ty i couldnt find anything concrete when google searching, apparently i wasnt trying hard enough.

The microphone doesn't show up in the notification area like my HTC Incredible but does appear to be working.
