Quick question about contact images

Once an image is applied to my contact, can I delete it from my phone or does it have to stay on the phone (gallery) for it to work?

Just tested it for you. It appears that you can delete the picture from the gallery and it still remains as a contact picture; however, I believe this is because Google syncs your contacts to gmail, including that picture, so if you add a picture to contacts, then delete it before your contacts sync, it may not save.

Because my phone is being really glitchy right now and I don't know if I would trust the answer...or if it would just be a ghost image...so I would rather hear from someone who knows for sure.
