I am decompiling Contacts.apk to change some stuff. 3 questions:

    1. I cannot change the tab selection font color (Phone, Call Log, Contacts, Favorites)

    2. I cannot change the textfield font color (where the number you pushed is displayed)

    3. Does anybody know the ABSOLUTE size for btn_dial_textfield_normal? Im using an actual pic as opposed to a color so I need the ABSOLUTE size!

    Thanks in advance!

been looking for number 1 and 2 for about a month and no ones ever replied to me. Hopefully YOU get a response cause I want to change this badly.

Also.. that part is probably in phone.apk and not contacts.apk

#3... 51x96 pixels. Or are you asking for it's max stretched size? I don't know but it just seems to me from your question that you plan on making it maxed out and changing it from a .9.png to a .png

I planned on leaving it as a .9
I have in the past just pasted a pic into that .9.png and it worked fine.
However, if you do not use the draw9patch tool to create .9's then you cannot recompile the apk!

After decompiling, I found the xml that controls these values at "res/color-finger/tab_indicator_text.xml but no color codes! They are linked to
    android:color="@android:color/dim_foreground_dark_inverse"
    android:color="@android:color/dim_foreground_dark"
    Cannot find them files anywhere!

    The search continues

if those are the values contacts grabs for the text colors you dont need to find dim_foreground_dark and inverse, just change them directly there using rgb hex values.

    ex: android:color="#ffffffff"

Sorry. I should have stated that I tried that before going through the trouble to search through XML and manifest! Even though I changed the values to hex codes, saved, and recompiled, they stay the same! Then when I recompile the apk again, the value is back on that other setting! Weird!

Hey, just to let you know. I found and edited your number 1. Mbk pointed out to me that using GIMP2, since the images were grey or white, it was set to greyscale. I changed it to RGB and edited it just fine.

Thanks. I appreciate the info! However, I don't understand it!
this is the first time I've heard the term greyscale before.
    Care to elaborate?

The tabs and the color of the tab text in the contacts.apk is pulled from the framework-res. The various tab elements are in res/drawable-hdpi and the xml's for the text color are in res/color

For the pic size you can take a screen cap of the dialer while you are using it and then open up that image in PS or whatever app you use and get the size of the area you need.

Really? All this time I have been looking for the place to change the contacts list (your friends names) from white to red and it's just been sitting there in the tab_indicator.xml and tab_indicator_v4.xml? I don't know if to laugh or cry.

Thanks for the info thoguh York! Good stuff.

Now the color of the names is probably inside the contacts.apk. I was referring to the tabs at the top and the text under them. "Phone" "Call Log" "Contacts" "Favorites"

The same tabs and text colors get used for any apps that call for tabbed menus like that unless they specify there own. In the Settings.apk under applications>manage applications, it's the same tabs. In SetCpu if you go in to profiles it uses the same tabs there too. The stock music.apk however specifies its own tabs and text so you have to specify those in the app itself.

I feel that I have been teased. :( The search continues. I completely feel like the people who made contacts.apk just decided to let the colors.xml for the system handle it and never made a specific code for the font inside contacts.apk alone.
