Quick rundown on my situation. In a civilian contractor overseas and have no service on my phone. Not a world phone as we all know. When coming back out here from vacation in the states I messed up and forgot to install Astro or any other file browser on my new phone.

Now I know this can be obtained on the internet and placed on the SD card, but with no file management in place, I have no way to launch the .apk

So my question is, with out any file management in place is there anyway for me to start the process of rooting?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes you can still root your phone the same way everyone else does. If you have internet access download the update.zip (with root), place it on your sdcard, then reboot your phone into recovery mode and install the update from sdcard. That will root your phone. Here is Big Lous tutorial and the update.zip file.
