I have unlimited data on my Maxx, but very limited minutes, so whenever possible I use Obi (which uses data rather than 4G to make the connection) to place calls. The only problem is that Obi can only be used when you have a wifi connection. So my question is, is it possible to use Google Voice to place calls, and if so, does that use 4G or wifi?

You can use Google Voice to make calls however it will go against your minutes usage

Thanks. Thought so, but wanted to make sure. So, my Obi, which uses wifi data, continues to be my best bet...

I am not 100% sure but close (maybe 90% sure)... if you put your phone into airplane mode (turns off radios for phone & data), then turn on WiFi (which works in airplane mode), using your Google voice would not use your minutes.

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned, though, I have no problem where there is wifi available. In that circumstance I use Obi, which definitely does not use my minutes...

Skype will use data as opposed to minutes.

Oops, I wasn't fully paying attention (it happens on occasion, lol). TextPlus free text + calls is an app that works on WiFi & data and will not use your minutes. But it is only free calls when calling others text plus phone numbers.

Get Google voice plus it calls your gv# then it calls the person you need and calls you back from your gv# and connects the calls.
Them put your Google number on friends and family if you have it. Unlimited minutes using gv.
