Question about changing sd cards

So I scored a 32g sd card for rooting my friends X. Do I need to format it to my phone and then switch things over from one card to the other? And what files do I need to make sure I transfer over? Besides my music, videos, beautiful widgets files and stuff like that. I just want to make sure all is good with the new card. Thank you for any help.

I had a similar question. I assume you can just grab everything that is on one and copy it to the other? Thanks.
