Motorola Droid 1

Here is my scenario after upgrading. If i get a new email to my gmail account, it shows up on both gmail and my droid. When i read it in gmail, it shows as read on my droid. When i delete it in gmail, it deletes off my droid. But when i read it on my droid, it never shows as read on gmail and if i delete it on my droid, it never deletes from gmail. I tried changing the settings a few times on gmail:
Tried changing to Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
Tried Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
I even tried disabling POP and then re-enabling POP
and also unsynced/synced my account on my droid many times
It's driving me nutz and everyone knows, I don't need any help with my nuttiness.
