Problem installing latest OTA Update

I admit to be quite confused.

I am rooted on 2.2 FRG22D. I rooted manually.

I received the FRG83D update notification and decided to go ahead and apply it. I know I will lose root until I reroot.

When the phone rebooted it went to SPRecovery and I did not know what option to choose so I chose reboot (I think I should have chosen apply Update.zip).

After the restart I am still on FRG22D and still rooted but I am no longer getting the OTA notification.

How can I updated to FRG83D. the update.zip file on my card is dated Sept 5th which seems to old to be the latest OTA Patch

SP blocked the update. Selecting "install update.zip" would have just flashed whatever is named update.zip on your SD card. I've never done an OTA since 2.1 because I've been rooted since June so the ROMs I flash have moved me up through the newer builds.

So what's the best option if I want the update (the ability to play WAV files again is important for me). Rooted or unrooted is fine.

I believe metick0ne has a rooted ROM of FRG83D with a link somewhere on these forums.
