I downloaded a kernel to flash, I renamed it update.zip (I was careful not to have it update.zip.zip) and then I booted in recovery and tried to install it, but I receive the error:

    E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

    --Install from sdcard
    Finding update package
    Opening update package
    Verifying update package
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted

anyone know what the problem is? Thanks a bunch

GUESS #1: You are already on 2.1

GUESS #2: You are not on SPrecovery.

Fortunately you didn't specify either so really my third guess is
GUESS #3: You like MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM

    Best regards,

    Ehud

Im on a rooted 2.1 (the walkthrough on droid life where you go back to stock 2.01 first) as for the second part, I'm pretty sure I'm on SPrecovery, i haven't changed it at all or used another one like rom manger. EDIT: It looks like I'm using the stock android recovery afterall

Awesome! We're on the track to success.

Dry DMUpdater or ROMManager (market) to get a different recovery.

If not successful... go to the sticky threat on SBF of SPRecovery - install that.

    best of luck to you!
