This just recently started happening. when i turn the phone off and then turn it on while holding x (attempting to get into Recovery mode) the screen just stays black and i have to do a battery pull. but if i use quick boot or rom manager and reboot to recovery then it will work. anyone know whats wrong??

i know you've probably done this but make sure you're holding x before you turn on the power, that makes a difference. but other than that I don't know what to say :/ I hope you can figure it out!

Is there a chance your x button isn't working?

I thought that too for a while, but if the x button wasn't working, wouldn't it just boot normally till he got to the homescreen? Cuz he's describing needing to do a battery pull cuz the screen just stays black.

But yeah check to see if you can type an 'x' into a messaging app or something.

Also you probably know this but hold x the entire time. From before you press the power button to when you actually see the recovery screen.

    Try this

    1. Hold X button
    2. Keep holding X button
    3. Turn on Power
    4. Keep holding X button for 10 seconds

It's odd that you can boot from RM but not manually...I suspect either your X key is broken or you aren't holding it down properly.

i'd suggest going back into RM, fixing permissions, then reflashing ClockworkMod. might help, idk.
