I attempted the "Higher Quality Video Recording" guide at rootyourdroid.info.
Looking at the guide might help to give you more information.

I got an error while pushing the edited file (build.prop) back onto the Droid.
    This is the line I entered..."busybox cp -R build.prop /system"
The error I received..."cp: cannot stat ‘build.prop’: No such file or directory"

I can access the boot menu. Here’s what it says...

    In blue at the top:
    Android system recovery
Use d-pad to highlight: center to select.
    reboot system now
    apply sdcard:update.zip
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition

    In yellow at the bottom:
    E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/command

    Any Ideas?
...And no, I don't have SPRecovery with Nandroid.

I would chose sdcard:update.zip. That will install, or reinstall 2.0.1 for you. This is what I got when I first rooted.

You probably will lose your apps, but it's no biggie, you can get them all back later.

**** man. I'm pretty certain you will need ADB shell on your PC and have to try and flash over SPRecovery and load up a custom ROM from someone else...I assume youre rooted?

just go grab the back to stock update.zip and apply it, should be back to normal, if that doesn't work then just do a factory reset. It will re-write the OS back to stock. If you can get into the recovery menu your phone is def not "bricked"

I bring up ADB, but it doesn't read my droid, I'm guessing because I can't mount it or enable debugging.
Installing update.zip was successful, but i still can't boot the phone.
    I am rooted.
Just entitled the thread "Possible Brick" because I wasn't sure.

While you are not bricked, your gonna have to get creative if you do not have a proper update.zip on the phone. Without sprecovery, you are probably not gonna be able to use adb. You can try, but my guess is your pc is not gonna see the phone or sdcard.

As Gentle pointed out, you are gonna need the correct update.zip. The factory one will likley not install. The one from back to root should work.

You may have to attempt to get the file on the sd card with an sdcard reader on your pc, if adb is no go. Pop your card out, and insert into your reader. Make sure there are no other update.zip files on the card root, and copy the one from the return to root thread. Put the card back in the phone, and give the update a try.

That was the modified update.zip, though.
I don't know how to get the stock one on without ADB.

well if you have to option to load update.zip you should also have the option to factory reset.

    I will try this.

Thanks so much for the help so far, guys!

As Bear pointed out you will mostly need to use a card reader.

    Unsuccessful.
Also tried a factory reset and memory wipe.
    Still no bootage.

Think I could just take it to Verizon, say it just stopped working, and get a replacement?
Or will they figure out that my phone was rooted and say my warranty is void?

Wow, you really have a tough one. Below is a link to sholes.info, and their file repository page.

    Important Files | Sholes

There are two files there, the update.zip and the original 2.0.1. Only thing I can recommend from your side, at this point, is to perhaps try either or both of these files. Same sdcard method or copying with a pc reader. Perhaps getting a clean file from the best source will help. And just in case, one of the problems folks were having early on was using windows with "show file extensions off" and actually creating a update.zip.zip. Make sure this is not happening.

To the question of vzw. The full blown vzw stores should have a way to reflash the phone. Others have reported it working. Just tell them you downloaded a market app or got a notification from vzw ota on the 2.0.1 patcher that was released last week to a few phones, and your phone locked up.

As your phone is producing the factory recovery screen, no way they should be able to tell anything, as likley you are not rooted, but have a seriously fouled system. And while I am no fan of taking a "broken" phone to vzw to get a replacement for something you did, asking for a reflash seems reasonable to salvage the phone.

So I figured out I was trying to install the modded update.zip.
That one installed okay, but I still couldn't boot.
I tried the stock 2.0.1 update.zip and the install failed.
It couldn't find build.prop, the file I was modding.
I guess I accidentally deleted it somehow.
Would taking it to Verizon and getting a reflash replace this missing file?

Download the Bugless Beast 7.4 update.zip file and put that on sdcard. In recovery mode go to apply sdcard/update.zip. See what that does for you. Since you are rooted this should work..
