Should Gapps (Google Apps) be a separate DL/Flash? Or should i include it in the ROM? Leave Feedback and Vote!!

Separate download and flash, unless you like going against Google and what they ask of you.

I wouldn't have even made a poll for this, the answer is clear. Just because others do it, doesn't mean it's right.

I vote separate because I dont use have the apps that your going to include and its easier for me to use my back-ups and install them manually.

I use 3 apps market, gmail and google talk. To me the market is the only app that you should include. with the ROM and you can have the others installed manually. This is just my preference and what I would do. I have made some simple apps and themes and no matter how good I thought they were people always bashed me about it. You cant make everyone happy so make it how you want it.

I can see doing an update.zip for gapps, but only package the apps not downloadable from the market within it. I think that will help make the ROM install light and fast, and give the power to the users on what they want (given it can be downloaded from the market).

Agreed -- it's one of the very few things Google puts restrictions on, so I think we should respect that.

+1 for not over-doing it on the system apps. A lot of great custom ROMs put a ton of apps in the system/app folder (like Twitter / FB / CarHome, etc), and it's just one more step to remove them if I don't want them. Doesn't stop me from using a particular ROM... (I'm not THAT lazy!) but it's just one of those "would be nice" scenarios... I'd like to skip the backup/remove process altogether if I could.

I would just load the market myself. If people want the other apps they will download them. I don't use gtalk but a lot of roms have it. I agree, light and simple, and people will load what they want or need.

Droid I. LFY 1.95. Tangerine Theme. 800 Mhz Kernel. Gingerbread keyboard. Lovin it.

The market authenticates via GTalk, so you kinda need that. :)
