Sticking with the Droid/android line of phones

I mostly listen to my music, not watch it on the screen...

All mine were MP3 from my player anyway and just put them on my droid easily, so I'm happy. dancedroid

my long-standing mantra... and because of this wise saying, i may be getting an iphone. i'm eligible for an upgrade in Aug, which would be perfect for all the dual cores coming out. buuuuuuut, i got my wife the INC last Feb, instead of the iphone she wanted, and promised her if she still wanted one, i would use my upgrade to get her an iphone. so, looks like i'm going to have to wait until the end of the year to use her upgrade to get what i want.

Bionic for me, thank you very much. :)

If I wanted an iToy I'd already have one. I'm on an Android forum for a reason.

If we're talking about android on Moto/Verizon, the Linux fanboy in me doesn't really feel much of anything. Locked bootloader, bloatware. It's nothing like GNU/Linux.
I don't buy bashing iphone for being closed and lauding a vzw droid* for it's openness.

I'm leaning towards the iphone right now, I lost my D1 a couple weeks ago and can't replace it until my upgrade in march.

I consider myself an android fanboy but I really want my own objective comparison and I really like the idea of good battery life.

If you get an iPhone all you will have is an "idea" of good battery life. I don't know anyone that has one that hasn't complained about battery life. Those things live connected to a charger...

True, but I never said I was fanboying over the openness per se. Simply that it's running the Linux kernel. :p As for the Open Source part, that was more aimed at 'I don't want to support a completely and blatantly proprietary system'.

Being locked down in any way isn't good to me, but I'd like a new phone, with bleeding edge specs, and I'll just have to deal with it for that.

You shouldn't, in most cases it's rather stupid. While even locked-down Android is a little more flexible IMO than the iPhone (apps, UI customization, etc.), I wouldn't call a locked-down Droid 'open'.
