Even if they did, apple pretty much took 10 things from nokia saying F U, and are now being sued by it. If i were nokia i'd have an injunction against apple for every piece of hardware that has that in them, which is EVERY iphone and ipod touch. Seems as though apple is caught again, always out to get other people for doing wrong against them, but in my experience never has a problem with doing wrong against others.

While the palm has it, apple does hold a certain patent for multi-touch, but most are saying it's not one that would ever hold up in court, and that is the reason they left palm alone.

Some people have reported that it seemed alot more like a mutual understanding. I'm sure google is getting something out of it in return, if that's the case.

you can try to hack it if you want, there is no consequence set by verizon, but if you mess it up and make a paperweight you have to pay full retail for another one

Bricking phones does happen, but I would imagine there would be some tool (i.e. BBSAK) for Android to wipe and re-install software by now?

Staying on topic, can this be introduced by a 3rd party browser that just copies the Milestone's code?

    speaking from WM experience only:
bricking a phone is harder to do with the introduction of a manufacture's bootloader available on the device (which users can access)... however, its usually this bootloader that needs to be altered/hacked to allow for all the custom roms, etc,. a bad bootloader will usually permanently render the device useless.

    in regards to android:
from what everyone is saying so far, root access is needed. in which case some sort of exploit needs to be found to do this... sounds like a waiting game

edit: oh and pinch and zoom seems to be totally a software/firmware type of issue. the screen is hardware enabled to do pinch zoom- yes? if so, then once root access is gained this should be a relatively easy patch

how about installing an alternative browser? will that avoid the need for rooting the device? could be a workaround until the latter is found...

Slightly off topic, but if you have a droid and want to show people some multitouch, then install PicSay (free) from the Market. It looks to have been updated with Multitouch and I can pinch zoom in and out of pictures.
