Something is wrong with my power button. On random occasions, instead of turning the screen on and off, it causes the phone to vibrate extremely intensely and open the camera app. The phone usually just randomly shuts off by itself soon after, and I have to turn it back on while hoping it doesn't get stuck in an on-off loop. Any help?

Welcome to the forum!

What phone are you using? Some phones have a feature where pressing the power button twice quickly will launch the camera. My Nexus 6P has this feature and I love it.

If you don't like the feature, I know there's an option to turn it off on a Nexus device in settings, but I'm not sure about other phones.

Nexus 5. I don't think that's a feature, is it? It might be related to the times my phone gets stuck in the on-off loop, with it displaying the Google screen over and over again...

Check your display settings. That's where the option is on my Nexus 6P.

Found it, turned it off because of the power button issues I've been having. Thank you!
