I find it really irritating that my Droid sometimes freezes or has apps quit. Does anyone know if Droid programmers (or whoever) are working on this problem? My boyfriend, who has an iPhone, always laughs at me when this happens to my supposed "iPhone Killer" because his phone never does that.

Is your phone factory default? If not, then you can probably blame the issues on poorly written third party apps you have installed.

^ No it's not, but I notice the quitting/freezing happening a lot when I rotate the phone, use the camera, or use factory default apps (or whatever you call them).

Don't rule out you have a bad phone. My first one had issues but the replacement has been rock solid.

Just because he got lucky doesn't mean other iphones don't have the same issues. My iphone 3G had tons of issues from freezing , to songs skipping, screen won't respond to my touch, and the phone restarting for no reason. You can laugh at his crappy network, drop calls and slow internet speed.

I've been with sprint for 4 years and had 4 drop calls. I've been with AT&T for 1 1/2 years and dropped a call at least once every day. Sometimes it'll take up to 30 seconds before the iphone will ring after dialing. So far so good on the Droid.

You either got some very crappy apps, or your phone is defected. Restore your phone to factory default and see if it still freezes.

I have the freezes myself, but only when either the phone is changing networks from 2G to 3G or if an app reloads its data from internet, like a twitter widget,

    but that is just normal.

One thing I learned from WinMo is that you have to be able to kill tasks. Not all apps are created equal, and one of the BIGGEST shortcomings with Market is that it doesn't effectively filter what is compatible with Android 2.0, 1.5, etc. You have to really read the user comments before you choose most of your apps. That said, try Advanced Task Killer from the market. See if killing unnecessary apps helps. Especially ones that might compete, like weather apps. If that doesn't work, factory data reset should do the trick.

that's my issue - do i return??? would seem that would receive another from same batch so no guaranty that new Droid would solve problem. hate to return if my "issues" are both known & solvable via updates: 1. have had a couple of "screen locks", i.e., "unresponsive" to my touch; 2. also, a couple of times, would not "UNsleep" until plugged in, even with having a charge of 30% left; 3. the LARGEST issue - when put phone in pocket or pick up, the screen "rotates", more often than not, with seemingly a mind of its own!!????? for ex. i could remove phone from pocket & the home screen will have rotated to the calculator. aware the droid very sensitive to the touch, but this seems odd; therefore, is this a defected DROID????

I have a brand new Motorola Droid and have downloaded voice dialer and voice dialer HF and both start up and then almost immediately shut down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

why would you download a voice dialer when that is already part of the OS?

Look for 'Voice Search' on your phone, run it, then say "call John Doe at home" :reddroid:

Same problems with my Droid too (freezing / apps quitting), but I have had this happen to my only a few times since 2.01. Still, even this shouldn't be happening.

Nice screen name, one of my favorite colors! Anyway, I have experieinced the same problems as you have at one point or another and its normally due to third party apps causing some sort of conflicts with the operating system. So here is what I normally do:

    1. Try to identify the apps I recently downloaded and try to remember if I noticed the issue before or after I downloaded these apps.

    2. Next, I power cyle the phone (just turn it off, wait for a few seconds, then turn it back on). If that doesn't help, then a perform a battery pull. I repeat this process sometimes 3 or 4 times consecutively and it normally in combination with step 2 solves my issues.

    3. I use an app killer to turn off the apps that I think are causing the problem to see if it solves the issue. It's also a good rule of thumb to use an app killer anyway. Many third party apps turn on automatically and run in the background. This can cause a signifcant performance decrease especially if you have DL a lot of apps (like me) and a lot of them are running in the background. For instance, I've downloaded approx 30 apps, and at any given time a dozen or more automatically turn on and run in the phone's background. I've been toying with my phone enough to tell that when it begins to lag in between home screen transations, open apps slowly, or FC that normally I have numerous apps running in the background and normally that is the case. It's been my experience when I turn the apps I'm not using off the phone reverts to normal. However, sometimes this doesn't work; thus, you have to try to figure out the problem through trial and error.

    4. Now here is the subjective part. If the disabling the apps fixes the problems, then you can either uninstall them all, or re-enable the apps then disable them one by one until you replicate the issue and unstall that app, or just to put up with the FC if you really like the app (which is what I do most often).

    5. Lastly, if none of the steps above resolve the issue you can reset the phone through the settings menu, have it diagnosed by a VZW tech, which if they can replicate the problem, cannot find a way to reslove the problem, and determine that the phone has not gotten wet, dropped, or anything else that voids the man. warranty, then they normally will replace the phone.

If been in the telecom industry for over 7 years and I realize that some people will not have the same level of expertise as I or a "techy" would; therefore, I tried to make the instructions as clear and as detailed as possible. I hope this helps.
