I would wipe ... not sure if this is 2.3.4 so better to wipe IMO.
I am thinking that other file was a kernel maybe. But I am not 100% sure about that either.
So, in short, I did not directly answer any of your questions lol ...

So, are we to install the ROM followed by that kernel? Or is that kernel optional? I'd assume there is a stock kernel in the ROM .zip

Yeah Rom followed by the Kernel. Im assuming that's the BEST kernel for this update.. probably better than stock.. I've flashed it already and it's pretty nice.. He even has an option to enable froyo low memory parameters and i noticed a few other changes. So far, it's real smooth. Ill keep playing with it.

please reboot after installing. every once and awhile when you install it for some reason there is an issue with the phone calls and not hearing someone. after a reboot it totally goes away. also the libaudiopolicy is built from source for dsp to work but this break the bluetooth lady who says speak now as well as someother minor things....I will post a thread tonight with the beta and details on the rom. this thread will be a beta release since 2.3.4 is obviously out. this is not a fianl and only a beta which feedback is needed.....Please try to refrain from posting question and comments until the thread is posted tonight so every can be centralized.

kernels are optional....the kernels have the fix for usb mounting. as of now there are 3 mayeb another that im not aware of but petes v2, deprimed, and the pe kernels need to be used or you will have issues mounting your sdcard through usb.

links to kernels below: (if you use these kernels on a different rom the rom must support zram (for compcche to work) and unless the new rom has the support for the newer kernel switches that have been ported then usb mounting may cause problems. if you have reboots and/or lag flash the 1.1.sv please

Sweet - thanks for the update actn. Just an FYI, USB works fine (for me anyway) with this stock kernel in the BETA build.

I've been running v6 for 2-3 days now with the PE 1.1Ghz lv kernel. All seems to be running well with the exception of when I'm done using navigation, the phone gets choppy/laggy for some reason. A reboot of the phone fixes this. It also occurs running the sv kernel as well.

    Thanks All!

I have been running V6 since Saturday night. Initially I had a bunch of problems - lots of reboots, sync wouldn't work, tons of lag - but once I changed kernels all was well. Initially I flashed the Zephius RZ kernel that I had been using on V5.0.2, but USB mounting didn't work with that one. So I tried one of Pete's newest kernels and everything is great. I'm having zero issues with this ROM. With how well this ROM is running I'm surprised it's even referred to as a BETA.
