The M5A I posted is AM3+. Quick way to tell the difference is white = am3/2+ black is am3+. Either way there are many many other options you can go about this just my opinion, that Gigabyte board that was mentioned earlier is VERY nice.

Hey JR thanks for all your help. I think this is what I am going with:

NZXT BETA EVO Classic Series CS-NT-BETA-EVO Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Item #: N82E16811146059

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Item #: N82E16822136073

ASUS M4A78LT-M AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Item #: N82E16813131672

TOPOWER Galaxis MX Series GAPS-500MX 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply
Item #: N82E16817342039

Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3K2/4GR
Item #: N82E16820134792

AMD Athlon II X2 255 Regor 3.1GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor ADX255OCGMBOX
Item #: N82E16819103896

I realized that my current DVD drive that I have (Philips SPD2410L1) uses an IDE connection, so I would need this on the mobo. The mobo I chose has this port and I feel it will be sufficient for what I need it for. If in a couple years down the road I want to build something new, than I will look towards AM3+ or whatever new tech is out by than, but for now I dont see myself needing a 6 or 8 core setup.

Again, I appreciate all your help. Do you think this will do me well? With tax and shipping it comes to $317 and I feel that is far better than what I would be getting for if i bought pre built.

Also, I was able to get get a copy of windows 7. So now once newegg ships me all the components, what do I do first? Im thinking I just go and install all the hardware, put the windows 7 cd in and boot up and im good to go. Than just install whatever drivers i need, or is there a certain order of steps i need to follow.

If you'd like, I can PM you as I think this thread is dead, unless someone else cares to chime in on about building a PC.

Hey anytime! Tbh, I think you made a VERY VERY wise move. Still got plenty of upgrade options available. I can also understand your point about just getting am3 instead. Many more options to choose from when it comes to a motherboard.

Just got all the parts yesterday, in the process of putting it together. May take me awhile since my son isn't wanting to nap. Everything but the HD is in and I have to still connect all the wires to the mobo.
