I just updated my Moto Droid to 2.2 manually. I was just wondering if I would be able to overclock my Droid right now or does it HAVE to be rooted? If I can, can someone please direct me to a site where it shows me how to step by step? Thanks.

It HAS to be rooted.. That's the only way to access kernels, which allow you to set the overclock speed..

You will need to install some kernels so you can overclock. You should get SetCPU from the Market. Do a google on P3 Droid Kernels. On Droid right now that's the best I can do.

Like the above poster said, and what the poster above him meant to see, visit the ChevyNo1 section and check out his kernals. Scared to manually root? Download Easy Root from the market and you're rooted in 20 seconds. If you need help on how to set up the roms/kernals just search the forum, lots of great information or just ask a fellow root enthusiast. :D

Thanks for the answers. Just a few more questions...Now that I already have the 2.2 update, can I still root my droid? I'm not that great with technology so can someone please lead me to a site that provides step by step directions so I can overclock my droid? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the answer. I just went to the market place and searched "easy root" but was disappointed to see that it only works for version 2.1. I'm currently running 2.2. Damn, lol.

I'm not positive but I believe you will have to wait until a 2.2 root is released. Maybe someone else has a certain answer, but either way if one isn't released yet it will be very soon.

It's just as easy to downgrade, then root, then upgrade.. Give it a shot!

How do I go about downgrading back to 2.1? Remember, I manually installed the update myself earlier today.

So basically your only option now is to wait for a 2.2 root method to be released or revert back to 2.1. I've never tried this but view this thread to learn about the process, several people have stated it works.. but if you're unfamiliar to rooting you may want to wait it out or study up on some guides around here before attempting to revert to 2.1.

I'm still not 100% sure, but you can try this..
Place the stock 2.1 update on your sd card, boot in to recovery, and install update.zip. Just gotta find a place to download the 2.1 update.
