So I just re put on BB0.4 wipe cache and data and now this Froyo notification update keeps coming up. It says downloaded and ready to install and just a button that says restart and install.

How can I disable this and all future OTA updates? Thanks all!

If you have SPRecovery installed, just let your phone attempt to install the update. SPR will block it and reboot your phone.

After that, you shouldnt get the notification anymore.

guys, if you are running a custom rom check in your area to see what's been done about this. I have seen post where rooters are hitting the install button and it's installing and removing root. Now I'm not 100% certain, I've only seen one person that this has happened too but be careful.

I am rooted running clockwork, letting the update install brings me to a ! in the triangle right after the install starts. Reboot right after this and no issue's at all. There is a thread in the Bugless Beast rom area about a StopOTA patch they did, that appears to work as well.

Not sure why others are loosing root -

If you are running a custom ROM based on FRG01B do not downloan Pete's StopOTA. I did and found I was locked in the M screen. A couple of battery pulls later I was able to boot into recovery and restore.

    Upon Further Review

It appears it is OK to accept the update OTA. The guy who lost his root had downloaded the update from the internet and ran an install. So if you accept it either SPRecovery or Clockwork should block the OTA. And the messages should stop.

Hook, thanks for the calming, reassuring words. :)

So...I'm running FRG22 (rooted) and got the update notice today. After reading this thread I figured, "Let's go for it" and let the OTA install run. When I checked my phone, I noticed that SPRecovery had started, and it was at the usual top-level menu.

Wasn't sure what to do (I'd assumed the install would begin automatically) so I navigated to Install, and sat there looking at the menu for a few minutes.

    - Install custom ROM (in so many words)..."no, that's not right"
    - allow update.zip installation..."OK, maybe"
    - Install /sdcard/update.zip/ (deprecated)..."Hmm, doesn't feel right"

So I started to do what I do when I install a new ROM--went with option 2. Then I remembered that the update.zip file in my SD root was the last kernel I installed. Surely that wouldn't work.

So anyway, I backed out, and decided to reboot without installing anything. Not sure where the OTA install file is right now, but after restarting the phone the update notice is gone.

Blocked OTA confirmed. I accepted the update and was prompted to the triangle with a ! in the middle. Press power button and click reboot system. No more annoying update notification!

Noob question: 2 weeks ago I rooted my stock 2.1 with easyroot and installed BB v0.4 w/ NexTheme. If I want to manually update official 2.2 in the future, can I unroot from my current state, or do I need to do something in ROM manager first? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you're interested you can get a signed copy of the Verizon OTA update that will allow you to install without losing root. I'm running it now.

Go to the news section, Froyo Circus thread, page 6 and find Jrummy's post.

You didn't expect me to link you, did you?

Thanks Hook! Been asking this question on almost every droid site and you're the only one to reply! Thanks also for the link. I'll check it out tonight after work. Cheers!
