Since it looks like a stable version of CM7 is a ways off for the original Droid, what are the prospects for an update of CM6 with the latest Froyo (2.2.2) kernal and updated Google Apps?

I'd settle for an updated Google Apps package at this point... the Market app is MONTHS old.:motdroidhoriz:

CM6 development is sort of old news now. Why not try the release candidates for CM7? RC4 is excellently stable.

I like stability above all else. I've read too many issues regarding the Gingerbread kernal on the original Droid; primarily memory management, tethering, and WiFi/3G issues. I'd rather stick with what I know works. It sounds like there are many efforts to attack these issues with Gingerbread ROMs on the original Droid, and I can be patient. It's just that I also know there is an SMS vulnerability with 2.2.1 Froyo that is patched with 2.2.2.

I would go with a new phone then rather than wait for someone to work on older firmware for a EOL phone.

Not trying to be a dick, honestly, just see a lot of developers moving away from the D1.

Sadly it is my current phone, but my upgrade is up in a few months.

Very true, this became painfully clear this week.

I am running froyo on my D1 till the end of the summer when I can upgrade (even then I dono if i will cause it'll still cost me a bundle uhg)

It is understood that old technology gets left in the dust, but I hate to see people still working on the D1 and releasing gingerbread roms that dont work well... Ohs Wells

ChevyNo1's 5.2 has been by far the most stable GB rom out right now for Droid 1. IMO, but I'm not alone.

CM6 will most likely never be upgraded to 2.2.2. To me CM7 works fine. The tethering should be fixed now. I am going to try to do some memory optimizations to my cm7 build to see if I can the memory management better. Wifi should also work fine with the stock kernel. The only real issue remaining is the 3g one which CVPCS is working on.

Well, for all of you, that are like me and want a sure thing with Froyo, Project Gimp is coming out with a Froyo update very soon. His rom's are very stable and fast with no bloat ware.

My trick will be to find an Android phone I like with an unlocked boot loader, and a slide-out keyboard... until then, I'm sticking with my D1.

If I were to go back to a Froyo ROM right now, I would hands down go right back to UD 2.5. Sometimes I wonder if I should just go back to it right now.

Here's an interesting problem that's happened twice now... the little "launcher" at the bottom of the screen... you know, the one that acts like a quick link to your phone, applications, and web browser?

On two separate occasions, it just disappeared and so far the only way I've been able to get it back is to reboot the phone. Anyone else see this?

Does CM use ADW as its launcher? I thought I noticed that it does when I tried CM7. I am using Project Elite 5.0.2, and I recently gave ADW another try, and noticed that it does the same thing. I switched back to Launcher Pro and everything it fine again. The problem may be with the ADW launcher. Try using Launcher Pro and see if that fixes it.

This is a swipe feature built into adw. You can turn it off by going into ADW settings > UI Settings > Dockbar (uncheck).

This happens any time you swipe upward on the dock. To make it return, swipe down where the dock would be and it will return.

ADW is an ok launcher, but crap in comparison to Launcher Pro, in my opinion. Much less lag with Launcher Pro for me.

    That's the hidden dock.
Swipe up and launcher disappears but then with the hidden dock, you can put unlimited apps there and it scrolls across.

I use it for most used apps as a launchpad.

To get back normal view, swipe down on the hidden dock.
