So, I installed the "official" 2.1 update today. Now that I have, and installed Helix Launcher, I kind of regret it, as it's pretty sluggish. So, I decided I finally wanted to give rooting and installing Cyanogen a shot. However, you can't use DM updater to root 2.1.

So, my question is this. Is the only option to revert back to 2.0.1, root from there, and then install cyanogen?

I'm extremely new to all of this, so any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Not even sure you can revert to 2.01 if you lost root.

Never had root to start with, was doing all the proper reading first to be sure not to brick my phone. So, if this is the case, will I just have to wait for 2.1 to be rooted?

I guess I'll just wait until someone "officially" roots 2.1.

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-help/24707-unroot-unbrick-your-phone-using-sbf.html

That is for 2.01 which will work but...

If you have adb setup and don't mind typing (or copying and pasting) a few things you can take a shortcut. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-help/30370-how-root-ese53-phone-apps.html

That will update your baseband and put you in rootable 2.1 You then install your recovery of choice and install a ROM. Or...you can manually root it, which there are instructions for that too in that guide, but you don't have to if you plan on installing a ROM.
