OnePlus continues to reveal new details on their second generation device. This time we have a slew of revealed features, including a 3300mAh battery, LTE bands, WiFi Calling and more. As a recap, here's everything we know so far about the phone:
  • 3,300mAh battery
  • Improved camera
  • Charging cable will be longer
  • USB Type-C, (probably no wireless charging though)
  • No heart rate sensor
  • Improved OnePlus’ StyleSwap covers
  • Two versions of the OnePlus 2 with different radio bands for different regions
    US GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8 FDD-LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/7/8/12/17
    Europe GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/5/8 FDD-LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
  • WiFi Calling eventually (although it probably won't support T-Mobile WiFi Calling at launch)
There's obviously still much to learn about the new device so we will keep you apprised as they reveal more.

Why are manufacturers still making GSM phones? It is my understanding GSM will be no more by 2017. AM I wrong about this?

I'll consider this phone once it gets T-Mobile Wifi calling.

I think you have it backwards. There are far more GSM carriers world-wide than CDMA. Verizon and Sprint are the only big CDMA carriers in the US. Verizon's massive customer base is probably the only reason CDMA still exists in the US.

In a way though, you are potentially right. Eventually everything will likely move to something beyond either GSM or CDMA. Once Voice over LTE is perfected and spreads out then we won't need the old school cellular networks. Also, with Google's Project Fi, voice over WiFi is a viable option in the future as well.
