I basically wanted to change the battery icons to a different set.

I tried Ninjamorph. It didn't work.

I tried to open with 7zip and just copy the images in. This worked, but when I booted my phone, facebook and gtalk authentication broke. I could fix facebook, but it took forever to fix gtalk authentication.

So how am I supposed to do it? Am I screwing up the permissions of the framework-res.apk file when I modify it in 7zip?

First, I used Root Explorer, but it wouldn't let me boot up that way.

Then I tried using adb to cp from the sdcard to the /system/framework folder.

yeah sounds like you permissions are getting jacked best way throw the apk in a update zip and flash it like a rom, or use your cpu to push it to your phone from your computer!

Hmm, ok, so when I ADB pushed it to /system/framework and rebooted, LauncherPro is now screwed. It just FC's as soon as you unlock it.

I can't even get to the homescreen.

Maybe you are doing something wrong with NM, I fully customised my theme with ninjamorph with no issues at all. I have 3 themes in one, including battery icons.

copy the framework app to sd card then to pc desktop
use 7zip to open archive of app
    change out .pngs
reboot recovery (make sure you r still connected by usb to pc)
    mount options
    mount system
adb push the framework back to system/framework
    unmount system
    reboot

Works everytime for me and I do it ALOT!!

That's exactly what I did, but it seems that launcher pro has become dependent on framework-re.apk. I'll keep trying though. It's a pain to recover though.
