    What is Liberty?

Liberty is a ROM for the Droid X and Droid 2. After installing Liberty ROM you and your device will become liberated from the lockdown Moto has placed on it. We believe you chose an Android phone because you love the ability to customize your phone. Liberty does this best from its customized & fast base, Liberty toolbox, settings, customizer, themes and much more.

    =================================================

    Common Questions and Errors:
    (work in progress)

I have a Droid 2 Global and you guys don't seem to support me.

Yes, Liberty is only officially for the Droid 2 and Droid X. It's not that we don't like you :p but rather because we don't have your device to test on. Liberty would love to help get it ported better to these types of phones by working with the community though.

After moving to Liberty I installed bootstrap and now I get a blank screen. What's the deal?

Droid X bootstrap no longer works correctly on Gingerbread but Droid 2 Bootstrap works fine. Also, Liberty installs bootstrap for you! No need to reinstall it after installing the ROM.

The Liberty Customizer is pretty sweet but can I access it again?

Yes, go to Settings > Liberty Settings

WTF, Liberty Settings is force closing on me in 2.0.1. What's the deal?

You most likely installed a theme with the old Liberty Settings which doesn't support the settings fix. You can always access Liberty Settings by going into Liberty Toolbox, clicking menu button and then click on "Settings". In 2.0.1 there is actually a bug in Liberty Settings if you go through the normal settings menu so I suggest accessing it via Liberty Toolbox.

I updated to Liberty Gingerbread but now the Rom Manager doesn't show as much in Liberty Toolbox.

This is on purpose to hide things you should not install on Gingerbread.

    =================================================

    Liberty Gingerbread Changelog

    V 0.4:

☆Added Liberty Customizer to let Liberty users have more umm.. liberty ;)
    - customizer appears on first boot and can be accessed in Liberty Settings.
☆Compiled more apps from source (mostly for customizer) adding a new GB custom Liberty Launcher2

    - Access this in Settings -> Applications
☆Fixed new event force close in Calendar

Could you please explain the presence of the 3G MobileHotspot app? It is not a patched version, which is fine. But what is disturbing is that you cannot remove it (or freeze it). It does not show up in titanium backup.

And the worst part, when opening barnacle or android tether, 3G MobileHotspot displays notification that you are tethering. This is MOST undesirable given the current uproar over tethering..

    Thanks

Agreed, If you guys could remove that it would be great.. It's just more bloat that I would rather not be on my phone.
So far Liberty GB is looking awesome, great job team liberty :)

Right, since Liberty installs droid 2 bootstrap with the zip there's no need to install the actual app.

Also let me say that's not a stupid question because I've been asking myself the exact same thing. I haven't gone to LGB yet but that's because I'm waiting for a few of the kinks to get worked out. And a few more people to tell me exactly how to do it. I also am wondering if the "release" version of LGB will be easier to install than the current ones...

We'll certainly have more documentation and a clearly laid out method for you to do it.

I'm still running 2.0.1 and I'm about ready to switch over to GB. Question since I can't seem to find the original GB thread or install instructions. If I get the liberty toolbox donate and go to the nightlies, am I able to download and install each of the GB versions there?

If so I assume I'd have to install each one .01, .02, .03, .04, .05. and now .06 one at time until I get to the latest?

    Its easier than you'd think.

If your on 2.0, this is all you have to do.

    1. Get LTB Donate.
    2. Download and install Liberty v1. Wipe data /cache (If you are using DX Bootstrap, have USB Debugging unchecked. Yes DX Bootstrap DOES work on GB)
    3. Wait for it to install....
    4. Get LTB Donate back, and install Liberty v.6. Wiping cache isn't needed.

So you have to go from Liberty 2.0>Liberty v.1> Liberty v.6!!!

Oh nice! Thanks for the info! I wasn't looking forward to having to install/wipe/install/wipe 5 or 6 times back to back to back..LOL.

I may get on that this weekend then.

    Its worth it.
I too was on Liberty 2.0.1 a few days ago, before I made the switch.
The only downside is that its more difficult to get themes onto it. And there not as many.

Hopefully within a few weeks, we might see them showing up in the toolbox.

So, even though it's recommended to be on Gingerbread 4.5.596, it's not necessary then? Any disadvantages to using your method instead of that one?
