Official GMail update in market won't install

I get an error box with the message "Package file was not signed correctly.". On sapphire 1.1.1.

You have to delete the gmail.apk from the /system/app. Root explorer is an easy way. Terminal is another, but I'm not good with commands.

+1 on Root Explorer--there is not a lot it can't do

Ok, I did these commands in terminal and it worked AFTER a reboot.
su
cd /system/app
sysrw
rm Gmail.apk
sysro
<rebooted> Wouldn't work before the reboot.
Then installed from market.

Worked fine after reboot.... figured that was what was needed, but nice to see a thread had been started. :)

Where does this install to. I don't see the apk in system/app.

You can also use Titanium to uninstall it. That is what I did.

Just don't forget to reboot. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out why the installation was failing

i used titanium backup to delete gmail, had to reboot to get it to reinstall after that...now everything is cool

should have read your post before i suggested the same thing but either way worked for me too
