I'm downloading the file from the link in OP. Not sure how to check the hash. Once I get the new file I planned on wipe data/factory reset -> reboot -> wipe cache x2 -> update from SD then if first time fails reboot -> wipe cache x1 -> install from SD. Correct process?

Correct, just do not let it do a reboot if it fails.

I'm stuck - first status 0 then status 7. Now even after using Matt's tool I just get the dead robot with the open chest. Please help me.

By reboot I meant select the reboot option then hold vol + and vol - so it goes right back into the screen with the option for recovery. Am I correct in that?

After you wipe data, don't reboot, everything else is fine.

Middle right "Download" unzip and check the ICS download, make sure the MD5 is same as mine in the OP.

that's the ICS recovery. From what I have read, this is where you need to install from sdcard and it will work for you.

That's perfect, go into recovery now and install, wipe first then install, SHOULD get you into ICS!

made it past the point I was getting the status 7. Now as long as I don't get the status 0 again I'm good.
