is this considered a root?
Ok, I have a helpful suggestion for those who want to take the plung but are concerned with it failing.
My first install failed as many of you have had.
Once I got the failure notification, I selected the reboot option and then immediately held the vol- and vol+ and power.
This put me back in where I could go back to recovery.
Did a wipe cache again, and then immediately selected the install from zip.
Everything worked this time, and I am loving my ice cream sweetness!

I don't even care about getting the ICS to work anymore. I just want a phone that WORKS!!!!!!
The people whos phone died, follow the post below made in this thread earlier this morning.
Yes, sorry Volume Up (+) =)
The above will work 100%, since the first time it updated, it overwrote the NEW recovery "needed" to flash this update. So right after it fails the first time, immediately get into Recovery again, clear cache once and install = ICS! !
Let me test a device with the method up top, if it works as describe that will he the new method and ill update the OP. No bricks at all should occur that way, as long as you get into recovery right after the first failed update. =)
Under Recovery there is an option for "wipe data/factory reset" what would this do? could this unbrick it?
I just got mine to work. I did the mats utility thing and it didn't work right away. In fact I got an icon of a droid laying down that looked like his stomach was open and it had a red exclamation mark. So I followed the steps that the OP first said to you when you were stuck at the red M. After a couple minutes it worked. No ICS but it got me back to stock which is fine.
you sir are amazing! thanks for all your help. im to the point that i cant wait for the update anymore i wanna get it now and you have made it super simple thanks alotdancedroid
I thought you didn't have enough battery??? How did you get Matt's to work with low battery?
Did you try the last post I made in the last page?
Yes. When I get to the fastboot screen it doesn't say battery ok - even when I first plug into the wall charger.
Ok...after reading all this I took the plunge and Success!
1. Did Matt's 1.7 Option 1 First
2. Followed the Steps to Update ICS
3. Received Error 7
5. Powered down and Followed the Steps to Update ICS
so ive been waiting for the install to finish, but its been on patching boot image for i wanna say 6 minuets. is that normal?
