It looks like one of two things are happening at NVIDIA (or even both): one, they felt the that their awesome portable gaming device, the Shield, is not selling well enough, and/or they are blowing out inventory because they plan to release a new Tegra K1 version. NVIDIA just dropped the price of the Shield down to only $199. That's not all though... they have packed an incredible amount of value in there with new updates and features.

Here's what's coming soon for the Shield:

  • Upgraded to Android 4.4.2 KitKat
  • Revamped UI for the Gamepad Mapper
  • Ability to stream PC games outside of the house
  • Bluetooth keyboard and mice compatibility
  • Charging the device while using USB connected peripherals
  • PC wake ups and remote logins
On top of these robust improvements, there is word that Valve is working on an Android port of the hit PC game Portal and it will be coming to the Shield later this year.
