    2) battery life has started to decrease quickly.

im really new to rooting, so theres some things and technical terms that im really not familiar with.

what is a kernel? how would a different kernel help my phone? how would i even install one?

and how would i go about fixing my issues?

The kernel is the core of the OS and controls the clock speeds and CPU voltages. If you are unsure how these affect your phone you should look into it, but it boils down to faster speeds eat more battery and higher voltages eat more battery. You install a kernel in standard update.zip format.

    1) reboot your phone more often.
    2) clear dalvik, flash a new kernel, do a power cycle.
