Ok so I'm having a problem. I'm rooted and just manually updated my girlfriend droid to 2.2.. but now she want a custom rom like mine so how do I go about going from stock 2.2 to rooted 2.2? Very new to this so don't be to harsh on me guys. Thx in advance!

You can either use RSDLite to push the SPRecovery SBF to her phone and go from there or you can use Easy Root and install ROM Manager from the market to flash SPRecovery or ClockworkMOD Recovery onto the phone. At that point you should probably ditch ROM Manager unless you're tech savvy because it's not playing well with FroYo at the moment.

Yup. RSDLite still flashes stuff the way it used to. There was some confusion for a while there but a few people having issues with the update proved that Motorola didn't plug up the works with the update.

Of course, since this is basically exactly the software the techs over at Verizon Wireless would use to push software to the phones, it would have been a Bad Thing for them to have done so. :)

All that flashing the SPRecovery image onto the phone affects is the recovery image. As such it bypasses the rest of the phone, so her not being rooted isn't a problem. I've heard of one user having difficulty flashing it on after updating to the latest version of the OTA update, but only one, and many more having zero difficulty.

Okay, let's try this simply. Yes, it'll work unless there's an act of God or serious user error.

Okay, how did you mess it up? Is it boot looping? Does it go to the home screen and freeze? What's going on to the best of your ability to describe it?

So you missed the step about flashing SPRecovery to the phone and instead your wiped all the data on it and put it back to a virgin, November 2009 phone state. No problem. Download the SPRecovery SBF from here:

    http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/OEM/VZW_A855_%20ESE81_QSC6085BP_SPRECOVERY_UPDATE.sbf

Now use RSDLite to push this file the same way you did the last SBF. Once you've done that you should be able to install any custom ROM she wishes (and I'm told the Pink Life by JRummy is a winner among women who like that sort of thing) using the same method outlined in this video.

Video: Installing a Custom ROM Using SPRecovery | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Make a nandroid backup before you do anything, though, as if the install doesn't take you'll need it to put the phone back without having to flash the SBF again.

Let me know how it comes out or if there are any issues. :)

Pull the battery, pull the USB cable out if it's plugged in. Wait five seconds and then pop the battery back in.

Do you have SPRecovery flashed in at this point or not? If not, follow this video to install it.

Video: Flashing SPRecovery SBF to Stock 2.1 | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

If it is, slide the keyboard out, press X and hold it while holding the power button until the Droid powers on. Do not release the X until SPRecovery loads. At that point, install as outlined in the previous video.

The battery has to be charged to at least 60% to flash a ROM, or plugged into a power source and charged to at least 40%. Many experienced users recommend higher charges.
