non root 2.1 manual update

Hey guys,
A buddy of mine just got the htc eris and he's curious(and impatient) about the 2.1 update. Is there a way to manually update it to 2.1 without rooting the phone? Just curious. Thank you

Why not root it though, you get access to a bunch of useful stuff.
I guess you could skip the root step and just install the rom im not sure if that works though.

Yea I tried convincing him..my moto droid is rooted....but he's all paranoid cuz he just got it etc. So my ass is on here trying to find an alternative (if there is one) lol

Well if he's all paranid then why does he want to update to something that hasn't been released then? If he's willing to void his warrenty by updating then I don't understand why he wont root. Maybe he doesn't understand what updating entails...

I just updated it manually without rooting. The only reason I didn't root is because I still want to get OTA updates from Verizon cause not all the OTAs are for the OS. You can get the file via search on the web or PM me. It's REALLY easy.
