I must say, rooting is such a pain in the ass. I have followed every single step down the the tiniest detail and have run into so many problems still.

I finally have Bugless Beast installed but now no theme will work. I boot up metamorph, select the zip file, it unpacks and at the very end I get this error and it closes.

The theme you selected is invalid because the theme control file could not be read and may be missing. (contact theme creator)

Can anyone help? Tried the Nex and SmokedGlass themes.

I know that MetaMorph only handles XML files now, but these theme zips I have downloaded have no .thm files in them to convert. I am very lost and frustrated right now. I have no idea why this isn't working.

Are the themes listed in this thread :

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bugless/41770-rom-bugless-beast-v1-0-ese81.html

Not supposed to be installed with MetaMorph? Because none of those themes have either a .thm or any .xml files. From what I gather on google this error message is happening because MetaMorph only handles .xml files now and most themes were created with .thm, but none of these zip files have either of those file formats in them, so I can't convert anything.

No install them with like other update.zip files, the same way you installed the ROM. Just rename them to update.zip and do the install.

You don't need to wipe data to install Smoked Glass over NexTheme, or vice versa.

Titanium Backup is a program that backs up apps and data, and makes changing ROMS a lot easier, so long as, once you change ROMs, you restore apps and data (but NOT system data).

I can confirm this. However, I did find that when I switched from Smoked Glass to NexTheme the Email app no longer supported signatures. Anyone else noticed this?

I'm using K-9 Mail and I also moved from Smoked Glass to NexTheme. At least for K-9 and GMail, there was no impact on the ability to append a signature to outgoing messages.

I have both MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup. The problem with MBP is that it only restores data for a limited number of items/apps (which are listed). Titanium Backup will back up your apps and ALL of your settings/data for each of those apps (every one of them!). Therefore, after you've wiped all your data a changed ROMs you can do a batch restore of apps and data (or only apps or only data, your choice). You can select which ones you want to restore. So, for instance, if you use Handcent and you have it completely customized, as I do, you can restore Handcent and all of your customized settings using TiBu, but you can't using MBP.

In TiBu, it's okay to restore all of your apps and data (all the items with white font), but you need to be careful which system data you restore. The system data that has green font is okay to restore, but you shouldn't restore the system data with red.

So if I'm gonna backup and switch roms using titanium, can I use a batch option to backup? The only backup option for data is "backup all user apps +system data". This "system data" is what I want to avoid backing up, correct?

Also, if I'm just switching themes within a rom, I can restore system data?

You can do a batch backup of everything, don't worry about backing up system data. It's the restore that's important. As I said, stay away from the from restoring system stuff that shows in red font. All items in white font, or system stuff with green font, are okay to restore.

You shouldn't need to restore anything when switching themes, since it's not necessary to do a wipe.
