Have the sound problem with external speaker. Took it to store today and of coarse it worked as soon as rep took phone out of case. <img src="http://cdn.droidblog.net/forum/images/smilies/smile2/icon_evil.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Icon Evil" smilieid="44" class="inlineimg"> but once I got home and tried to use speaker phone; no go. Now after reading forum I tried deleting all apps involved with sound and still nothing. But then I got to this post that talked about rubbing finger just below speaker and voila speaker worked instantly. Has quit working since and I have taken out of case and rubbed again and instant fix. So must be a hardware issue for sure.

have you tried the app above:

The easy way to fix this problem is to tap on the back of the phone by the speaker.

Seriously ive had mine since they came out and i use headphones a lot in my max and recently i noticed the speakers would stop working and if i tapped on the back of the phone they would start working again. I can only guess that if you use headphones something in the contact that reg if headphones are pluggged in or not doesnt release and the tap fixed is. Give it a try i bet it works for most issues like this.. unless its damaged.

I'll try it out. I never noticed it until it cut out while I was on a phone call.

I do not have juice defender installed. I contacted Verizon and they had me start it in safe mode and it made no difference. Mine started working a few hours later. Verizon is sending me a new phone, will have it tomorrow.

Hello, I am having the same problem. Were you past your 14 days and they are still sending you a new phone? Just curious.

Enigmmacrk, that is an interesting point. I use my headphone almost daily for listening to music through my Maxx at the gym and there have been times where I have had the no sound issue afterwards. Of course, now i know that pressing or tapping underneath the speaker corrects this. A slight nuissance yes, but for everything else i love about this phone, i can deal with it.

This thread has come along way since my first post (I was convinced it was software, LOL!) and am greatful for the collective input that debunked this issue to the root cause!! This fourm is a fantastic tool!

Phone #4, second one to have this problem.

I'm currently on my 4th Razr Maxx. The first one had this very problem. The external speaker stopped working, or would intermittantly turn on or off. I went through the whole troubleshooting process with the Verizon tech, rebooting, safe mode, etc., nothing fixed it. So they sent me a new one.

Phone #2, the first day out of the box, the main mic wouldn't work as no one could hear me talk.
Phone #3, I couldn't even activate as the mechanism that "clicks" when you insert the SIM card wouldn't work.
Phone #4, (current phone) having same problems as my first one.

I am going to try the trick of pressing on the back of the phone to see if that fixes it. Besides this sound issue, I really love this phone. However, I use it as my work phone and when I am on call, I need to be able to hear it ring or hear the notification sound when I get a text.

I'm with Verizon. Is there some point where you can tell them enough is enough, and demand a different phone completely? Or am I stuck with defective replacements until Motorola can come up with a better design?

U may have two options be really nice to the reps is step 1. step 2. is they are pushing upgrades so u may be able to call in and get a new phone as replacement however u will have to pay 2 yr pricing or if youve had a number of replacements u may be able to do alt replacement prolly a bionic but it would be a refurb but itll be free but no promises.

I got a razr maxx 14 days ago and noticed the speaker buzzing like it was blown, when i use it on speakerphone. Took it to verizon store day 14 after my purchase and they stared at me saying thats just how they are. I do Audio Video work professionally and the speaker is not right! They refusdd my worry free replacement and told me to kick rocks, i was like "whoa" did that really just happen? And i found this thread. It took me a few hours to cool off. Any suggestions? My speaker sounds really not good I had them sample it against a workers phone and his speaker soundd better! They still told me mine was fine although i could hear the differance their ears aren't trainefs mine are - they still told me i was crazy and that there were no speaker issues with the razr maxx- !WOW!!!

Have you tried customer support? Obviously there are many of us that have had this problem and switched out our phones. You just got unlucky and got a store full of jerks. Last time I was treated like that I called customer support and told them the issue and reported the store. Upon mentioning that I was still outside the store the CS rep had me go in and hand them the phone and he told them off. I would say call and let them know you tried in your 14 day but the store was not cooperative.

Its just a bad design on how the speaker connects. Its either this thread or another with pictures of the internals. Can't remember at the moment lol. If the contact is bad but not completely broken you will get noise. I'm on my second maxx as the first had a bad speaker. This one has been great.

Those were my pics. The contacts are simply spring loaded pressure contacts.
