I have been reading around for about an hour now. I want to update to the new firmware. I am getting the idea that you can download the 2.1 update off of megaupload.com or some other file hosting site. I want the update asap. Can somebody point me in the direction of a tutorial/thread/instructions.

Make sure you are on stock 2.0.1 then:

To get rooted 2.1: [Release] 2.0.1 stock to 2.1 with root!

To get regular 2.1 (can't root later, yet, if you go this way):
    1) Download http://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip from google
    2) Rename to update.zip and place on SD Card.
    3) Reboot, holding x while powering back on until a triangle with ! in it appears.
    4) Release x, press camera/volume up at the same time.
    5) Apply update.zip (dpad used for navigation).
    6) Reboot, enjoy stock 2.1

Hold the x botton on the pull out keyboard. :) And just mount your Droid as usual.
