I recently updated to the PreRoot version of gingerbread on my droid x.. Everything is working awesome! Then I downloaded and tried out Wifi Tether, a program I've used flawlessly in the past. I decided to connect my laptop to the tether to see if it worked

BAM! I was rerouted to a Verizon Wireless website, asking me to sign up for mobile broadband!

Is there any way around this? Would it make a difference if I tried Barnacle or changed some settings?

Here's a screenshot of the website I was redirected to.

Edit: I'm using Wifi Tether 3.1 beta 2. I understand some are having success with PDANet. It's just too bad there is no wireless tether with that.

I don't have a Dx, but I've been using the "Wireless Tether for Root Users" app without issue.

Sweet Jesus brad92 is a savior.

Didn't used it that often. I would use it on long driving trips or in certain hotels that didn't offer free wifi.

I think the tethering block happens mostly on devices that are running a STOCK rooted ROM. I haven't heard of the issue from people running a CUSTOM ROM. Were you running stock and just rooted or were you running a custom rom?

Verizon implemented a tethering block with the Gingerbread update for the Droid X.

I believe it was stock, and it was pre-rooted. I got it from mydroidworld.

yea I put it off too, but I got bored the other day and said "screw it"

I didn't know at the time about Verizons puny attempts to monitor tethering when I did it. Sooo Glad I did it. The phone runs like a raped ape, and brad92 and the TBH crew saved my bacon by having a fix for the tethering issue.

Here is the fix. Thanks to TBH and WugFresh.

Installs the tether patch, wireless tether for root users and also gets rid of the tether tracking files.

I wish i would have found this last night around 8pm. Oddly after installing the TBH two part .596 i couldn't tether my laptop to my phone so i ended up going outside to connect to a neighbor's wifi to submit my homework. Now my it works great.
