Interesting, would be nice to see this fix included in roms if it really works like they describe.

I only got about a 3mb/s improvement, however it made a big difference in how fast apps on the sd open. Gallery and handcent especially.

I set it at 3072. Works well. I tried 1024, 2048 and 4096 as well... but 3072 gave the most consistent improved results.

Set a bookmark in RE to that file. Haven't flashed it permanently yet. Want to try it out a few days.

Helped a lot initially though. Nice little hack.

I played around and 2048 really seems like the sweet spot for me so I flashed it. Really does make SD-installed apps open faster, and the gallery seems twice as fast. Hard numbers say a 2.7 mb/s improvement. I'll take it!

    Nice one.

This would be a great thing to fold into CM and/or Chevy's settings. Grabbing that app now. Thanks for the heads up!

Nice I will have to try that. I have not had any time to mess with this myself, but I can download an app pretty easy.

Yeah would be cool to be built in.

Apparently, it doesn't stick after reboot if you use the app. Oh well.... flashing.

    ...but seriously.

    ****NEVER MIND***
just had a quick read through the XDA thread, it seems that the SD tools app was giving false reports of massive speed increases due to the way it measured the read speed.
anyone noticing the speed increases in the gallery – this is because your phone now caches more pictures at once – hence the name “read-ahead cache” I suppose.
while this is arguably still a benefit of adjusting the value. it is definitely NOT dramatically increasing the read speed of your sd card as advertised…..

Hey I'll do it just to speed up the gallery anyway, it's slow as molasses!
