I'm considering a thunderbolt for a first smartphone, but was seriously impressed with my friends DX. The ability to customize, tinker with and the apps.what differances between sence and blur? is one more limited than other?

The factors that limit your options in the Market are OS version and country. Brand is not one of those criteria as it's too broad.

Try them out and see for yourself. It's a matter of personal preference.
