I've got a moto droid 1 with android 2.2 and I'm debating rooting cause I want wifi tether mostly for my xbox, but since I know it voids warranty I don't wanna have to worry about ruining anything and also keep everything I have now, how do I go about this? I have downloaded universal androot to do it with also is this a good root software?

Rooting has its pros and cons.... But so far as u voiding ur warranty, u can unroot and Verizon or Motorola will never know that u rooted ur Droid.... As far as Universal Root, idk because I used DM Updater to root mine and I root my girlfriend's with the Root regardless of OS version guide on this forum... But I have experience with the newest rooting method called z4root which is free in the market and it is easy as pushing a button, since that is all u have to do, lol...... Hope this was helpful....

You can now overclock the processor of the phone to make it run faster. Load a custom rom and kernel first. If your running the droid 1 use rom manager for all of that

Roms and kernels are all a matter of preference. On my droid 1 I ran buglessbeast rom and a chevy low voltage 1.1 ghz kernel. Try them out to see which one you like best, but remember to do a nandroid backup before flashing a new rom

It backs up your current rom and settings. There are two ways to do a backup. First download rom manager from the market and install clockwork recovery. Then you can either do a back up using rom manager or boot into recovery and do a backup that way.

A nandroid backup is a restore point for your phone so if you don't like the rom you chose or you goof something up you can take it back to an earlier version that works.

:welcome: to the dark side. Yes, I think you should get Rom Manager free from the market. As far as ROM's, browe the extensive rom section here. Mainly pay attention to how many thread people post with problems and then the solutions. Kernels? Google P3droid. IMHO his are the best.

    good luck
