I've had the Charge for a while and I've decided to root it and add a custom rom to it. I don't not know which firmwire I have (ED?) and do not know which roots and kernels are compatible with it.

    My firmware version is 2.2.1
    Kernel version: 2.6.32.9

take a look here [Guide] RootzWiki *Official* List of Roms / Kernel's / Radios / Tweaks / Themes and see if there is anything you like.
you only have to watch what you flash if you start mixing parts, any full odin is fine.
you are on ee4 now but that really isnt too important until you find what you like. you want ee4 or gingerbread (ep1*) ed1-2 are outdated.

it would be best if you report back afterwards so we can advise on compatibility and install method if you dont understand from the dev's instructions or just need help.

When I flash one rom and I want to flash another rom instead, would I have to erase the first rom or can I just flash the other rom as well?

yes you can flash one over the other but if you use a cwm rom you have to make sure your kernel is the same build if its not included.
right now you can only flash ep1w gingerbread mods unless you have a full odin for ee4 or other gingerbread builds.
it gets a little confusing, if your not sure just ask.

glad you got it working :)

Are you having any notifications popping up that say the Android launcher failed?

My phone is great after rooting. As for wick tether, I haven't used it so I don't know how it is.

If you root and intend to install a rom (Th3ory, Liberty, Eclipse), immediately after installing Clockworkmod make a nandroid backup of your virgin system. Do not remove any bloatware prior to making the virgin backup. That way you can always restore back to a stock rooted phone. Good luck.
