I have just rooted my droid 1 and have several question hope you guys can help. I have stock rom and am looking for a rom to install from this begining point. Something nice fast and battery effecient if that is even possible. Could yall sugest one and how exactly the best way to do it. Also when i install this rom will i loose my apps and have to reinstall them, how about my contacts, pics ,music etc. Im afraid to brick my phone so i have been hesitant to go past the rooting. Again looking to go straight from stock to the new one. I have seen how some have said to upgrade from a particular version. Thanks fellows.

Google market kept most of.my apps so when i rooted and signed back into Google on boot, all i had to do was open market and it started reinstalling the apps. BUT i did have titanium backup already installed which keeps the apps backed up to ur SD card WITH app data. There's a YouTube video tutorial on it,very helpful step by step. As far as bricking ur fone the first thing u want.to do after root is create a recovery of ur.current ROM before u root with clockwork recovery at least i.did.and it saved my butt wen i loaded my.new Tom and hit.a boot loop...read up on any ROM's forum completely before.trying.it

If you rooted you prolly have either clockwork recovery or sprecovery. Before you do anything if you haven't already, you need to make a nandroid backup. It is crucial that you have at least one backup.

You need to install a custom recovery. You can install ROM manager and flash sprecovery or clockwork mod recovery.
