    download titanium backup (pro is worth the extra money but not necessary)
    go in, and hit menu
    select batch
    do a batch backup of all user apps (dont do system)
    let it run
    wipe data/cache
    flash rom and radio
    boot up
    skip setup
    sign into market
    download titanium (it may be included with the ROM, if it is, skip this and the previous step)
    open titanium
    menu
    batch
    batch restore user apps with data.
    DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT restore system apps/data as this will usually cause issues.
    after the batch restore is complete, you should be good to go.
    you may have to go into settings and make sure gmail and calendar are sync'd but other than that, everything should be sweet.

    if you are at all interested in backing up text messages and phone calls, get the 2 apps below and use them to backup/restore what you want
