We have word from reliable sources that (as of the time of this posting, or a bit earlier) Motorola just sent out invites to a new Droid Bionic Soak Test. We don't really have any details, but it is unlikely to be Ice Cream Sandwich, unfortunately. If we find out differently we will let you guys know!

Doubt it is ICS. I believe when they upgrade they call it a 'new firmware release'. This is probably just the official .904

Given that 5.9.904 was recently leaked, that's probably what it is. But hey, who knows...

We wont know what it is until we get it unfortunately. But it probably is .904.

Maybe its an update for ICS and an unlockable bootloader. HA HA, never going to happen.

    2 Questions

    1) What does .904 fix/upgrade/add?

    2) How does one receive these invitations?

^^ Thanks for the fast response.

I'm rooted so the update doesn't seem worth the hassle to try and obtain it.

I'm still on .886. I haven't seen a single update since day 1. My Bionic is rock solid. Should I be concerned?

Yikes, perhaps not concerned, but if you're having any problems AT ALL with your bionic, the update to 902 is very likely to fix them. In fact you are likely experiencing problems on 886, whether you are acutely aware of them or not.
902 and now 904 have made my bionic heavenly!

How am I experiencing problems that I am not aware of? I live in a 4g area, but I never work in the same place twice. I am all over my market. I have rock solid 4g when available. I have no problems auto switching to 3g and back to 4g as I move in and out of those areas. I use GPS to go all over. Stream music and talk radio while navigating. I talk, text, take credit cards, run hot spots for multiple devices. I've been on several vacations in different parts of the country, same results. It all just works.

I fully anticipate having a new Quad Core phone before the BIONIC get the ICS OTA update.

Me too. I figured ICS would be released pretty quickly. Such a bummer.

I'm not part of the soak test group, but for the past several months, whenever I've tried a system update I've gotten the message "System update is not available at this time. Please try again later" as opposed to seeing "Your system is up to date". I manually installed the .902 update and Im forever rooted. Does that have something to do with the message I'm getting or do most people with a BIONIC get that message if there is no update?

You should get the system is up to date message, the not available message means something is wrong. Start with a battery pull and sim card pull. Start it back up without the sim....then shut it back down and put it all back in.
