New and Lost haha

Hi Im new to the forums and also new to rooting and installing roms on my droid.

When I try to run my update.zip I get
e:failed to open sdcard/update.zip (No such fil
e:signature verification failed
installation aborted

I have tried to use the forums to help me get through this but couldn't come to a conclusion. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Yeah, lately many of the files for rooting have been screwed up. Click on this link: http://downloads.droidmod.org/dmupdater-11.apk for Droid Mod Updater. It's an app that helps keep phones running Droid Mod updated. The first thing it will do will help you root and I guarantee this works. I'm assuming that you know to open up an emulator, type in "su" and all of that, but this will help you accomplish the main part.

Root 2.1 by using SPRecovery

1. Download ESE81update.zip
thanks to Pete of Bugless Beast for creating this file
2. rename the downloaded file to update.zip
3. mount Droid to computer
4. copy file from computer to root of sdcard
5. unmount card from computer
6. hold X while rebooting until SPRecovery screen comes up
7. wipe data factory reset
8. install
9. allow update.zip
10. install /sdcard/update.zip (depreciated)

You now have the stock 2.1 rom with root access and can play with Metamorph, apply themes, add a kernel for overclocking and more.
